On September 9, 2020, #SanFrancisco experienced "the day of red sun" due to massive smoke from a series of nearby wildfires.

@docpop You inspired me to look at my journal entry for that day. I remember how red the sky was. And I read how ash had penetrated everywhere, even inside the trailer...

@meganL the weirdest part, at least for me, was how much more breathable the air was on this day, compared to the smoke-filled day. It looked horrific, but it was one of the least smokey days to go out for a walk.

@docpop
Lots of photos but I can't find any videos. Sorry. -

I dug up a few of my photos from September 9, 2020 (aka "the day of red sun" in #SanFrancisco). The first is a photo of Sutro Tower from our block. The other, which is a photo looking out from our apartment, shows the contrast in color.

@docpop we lived in Boulder Creek, where the fires were still burning, and that was the first day they let anyone go back in the evac zone. I checked on our house, then drove back to our temp housing in San Jose. Here’s a video from 3:30 that afternoon, as I left our house.

@docpop No video but here are views from the Embarcadero looking east and North Beach looking west taken at noon. At the time, I sent them to a friend who asked if they were manipulated and I said, “Only if you count setting the WB to daylight…”

@docpop a lot of folks downloaded Halide that day because the standard iPhone camera app couldn’t get the white balance right.
