Last #MuC2024 day! Today's the only paper session I'm able to catch, and it is the one with the most co-authors active on here:

“Beyond Textbooks: A Study on Supporting Learning of Molecule Naming in a Virtual Reality Environment”: nice proof of sustained learning outcomes for their VR learning intervention. I wonder how much of it comes down to the novelty of VR compared to the actual design of the exercise and visualization. Congrats @viktoriaPammerSchindler and co-authors!

“Human-Animal Interaction in Immersive Virtual Reality: The Role of Social Presence and Positive Effects”: Hadn't seen anyone try to instrument social presence of virtual animals in VR before. Charming demo, nice results for stress reduction in study participants. Here's me trying to focus on the good this could do for people and not on the implications of replacing real pet contact with VR scenarios. I guess it's not too different from having a Tamagotchi in that sense?

“Conceptualizing and Designing a Virtual Reality Authoring Tool for Human-Robot Interaction Studies - Learnings and Guidance from Expert Interviews”: I'm always down for stuff that lowers programming experience barriers. Preliminary results look encouraging. The usual caveats on tool flexibility apply. Ambitious work!

“Tick-tock: Revisiting the Influence of Zeitgebers and Cognitive Load on Time Judgments during and after VR Immersion”: Attempting to nudge people's time perception by altering the position and movement of the sun is certainly creative. Almost a shame it didn't work in this study. Nicely done @flarion and co-authors! ️️

Last #MuC2024 paper session all done! Upcoming: break, then the closing session. Almost time for the trek home. 🥲 Apparently there will still be lunch before we leave. It was a fun conference once again. I'll do a proper final words post when I'm on the train.

Oops, I didn't know they still had an invited talk ready to go. And it's by @PEASEC people, nice! FYI they can now be followed at @news. Topic: monitoring social media for cyber situational awareness purposes. Potentially thorny, but seems this is about reading public stuff, not government backdoors or anything like that. Threat monitoring isn't really my research area, gotta admit I only partly understood the presentation. 🫢 But I guess it's useful for the people who need it.
