```When you see a changelog with the version rendered in square brackets, it's because people didn't know about reference-style links! Look at the bottom of the sample changelog on https://keepachangelog.com!

@nedbat I find markdown links even more readable with an implicit reference name:

This works for footnotes too, in most markdown dialects that support those.
