@_elena I made a test post using your comment form with the same issue, so this is not an ActivityPub only problem.
Maybe your DB is not setup properly?!?
You have to use `utf8mb4` as charset and `utf8mb4_unicode_ci` as collation.
OMG EMOJI π
One of the fun bits of the utf8mb4 upgrade is that we can now store emoji! Once your site is upgraded to utf8mb4, it can natively store any emoji character. There were a couple of problems with thaβ¦

@pfefferle I just got a super fast reply with a clear step-by-step guide from their AI support bot. The only use of AI I approve of, LOL

@_elena I hope the AI is right on that!

@pfefferle PhpMyAdmin didn't help, so I'm about to manually change my wp-config.php file and see how things go.
Mind you Matthias I'm an artist, NOT a developer. About to take a big sip from my cup of coffee, pray and hope I don't break my site LOL (I do have access to file manager and I have a backup of the old file ready to be re-uploaded just in case). Living on the edge

@pfefferle P.S.: you'd appreciate that the AI support bot is very careful and keeps reminding me "Make sure to back up the file before making any changes."

@_elena OMG
good luck!

@pfefferle ha! Thank you re: the clarification that it may not fix existing comments but future ones... I kept deleting the cache and checking from a browser in incognito mode, but nothing helped. This makes perfect sense. I'll publish a brand new comment from here and see how things go. THANK YOU AGAIN!

@_elena @pfefferle But does a new installation of WordPress still default to utf8 https://developer.wordpress.org/apis/wp-config-php/#database-character-set ? Using wp-cli seems to do that https://developer.wordpress.org/cli/commands/config/create/#:~:text=database%20charset.%0A%E2%80%94-,default%3A%20utf8,-%E2%80%94

@pfefferle @_elena Hm, the following:
wp core download
wp config create β¦
wp core install β¦creates a config with
DB_CHARSET='utf8'
but with database tables having `utf8mb4_unicode_520_ci`
Shouldnβt the DB_CHARSET be utf8mb4 or doesnβt it matter?
