Eh... remember that he was an actor and hype-man before he was a president, and a bit of a narcissist. Simply being charismatic and confident doesn't say anything about your ethics or fortitude, let alone that you are a competent or intelligent leader.

I wrote a paper about him before he ran for president, back when I was working on my business degree, and my takeaway was "unimpressive at best, conman at worst".
