Since I shared a few days ago that I have not been active here as I dealt with the imminent death of my brother, I thought I'd share now – at the risk of too much sharing – that my brother died this morning.

@MossyQuartz Thank you so much. Yes, it meant a great deal for all of us to be together, often crying silently in each other's arms, sharing a bit of food with each other when we needed to eat. My brother would have wanted that kind of gathering, I really think.

@marynelson8 Thank you, especially for recognizing how much suffering my brother had in recent months. He was so much stronger and braver than I think I would be in the face of that suffering, and when we'd call to talk and ask how he was doing, knowing full well he was nearing death, he'd always put the best face possible on how he felt. I appreciate your understanding.

@mastodonmigration Thank you so much. Yes, family relationships never quite reach the artifical ideals that so many institutions have laid down for them, do they? And, somehow, we still work to find love for each other in the midst of the less than ideal. My former sister-in-law is a real role model to me in that regard.
