I really hope fewer people are falling for his BS this time around. We already have self driving taxis in prototype that are more practical. (and yet still not practical. )
And ... public transit is awesome and could benefit from modernization and love. Fix the elevators and the NYC subway would be space age.

I'm pretty sure I've seen tech bros try and reinvent the bus like 20 times now. The trick is that they want to have busses, but more expensive a d without poor people.

@futurebird @smellsofbikes The stock market says, "yes, we're finally on to your bullshit!"
(Also note that he said it would be available "before" 2027 (2027!) but that he can be a "little optimistic with timeframes.")

Literally from 2018, and this wasn't even his first attempt
Also, my biggest hit ever on that site

Ladies and gentlemen, here's the automated self-driving electric pod system of the future! 🤯
These electric hyperpods arrive every 4 minutes on weekdays and every 10 minutes on weekends.
After passing through the futuristic platform screen doors, it whisks you to your destination through a tunnel at speeds of over 100km/h, including under Sydney Harbour.
I call it... The Sydney Metro!

@futurebird I recon that by 2026 Elon could finally achieve parity with Vancouver's mass transit technology from 1986 but his is "more cyber" or something I guess I dunno

@msh @futurebird By 2026 Elon will be two years from a useful mass transit system.
And in 2028 also.

@ajsadauskas @futurebird @CliftonR @amsomniac Spent part of this week visiting family in Blackpool where they had this wonderful thing called an 'electric tramway'.
Only the second place in the world to have one when they built it in (checks notes) 1885!

@dash My local tram operator has a slogan: „Electric mobility… since 1893“

@futurebird My hometown in Northern Denmark just bought a bunch of enormous double-articulated electric buses. They're extremely quiet for their size, and are the most comfortable buses I ever rode. They've made separate road lanes for them for much of their range - and in the inner city, the main street is now *only* for buses and service vehicles, so they don't get stuck in traffic. They were introduced instead of a scrapped earlier light rail proposal.
(They do have batteries, though.)
