I'm not clear on how this works. Can #Pixelfed posts show up in my #Mastodon timeline if I've followed a Pixelfed user or one of my Mastodon follows boosts it?

Or is Pixelfed an entirely separate feed?

Yes. It's a federated app so it displays in any other fediverse app. On Mastodon a Pixelfed profile looks like this:

@nicholasr @dansup @mastodonmigration I think the point of opening threads to the fediverse was to take over and eliminate the competition. I don't really see that working for them though since so many of us are specifically on here to avoid the corporate web

It did buy them a lot of good press and a lot of the notable X accounts went there as a result. It's kind of the same ploy Bluesky is currently running.
