“Should ICs keep coding even as they get past Staff engineer?”
I’m at the point in my career where if the most impactful way for me to contribute is to write a lot of code: either I’ve failed to find impact, or the company has failed to recognize impact.
I code *significantly* faster than most people know. But it’s the least impactful thing I do
-
Now of course, not all code is created equal. Some is significantly higher impact than others and that’s the code I tend to focus on.
The proof of concept? The one absolutely critical unit? The high risk stuff everyone’s afraid to touch? That’s what I’m here for
I code to unlock possibilities

@hazelweakly code as thinking, just like writing as thinking ️ ! So many versions of it possible!

@grimalkina @hazelweakly
Probably both of you have seen this from @jenniferplusplus 10 times already, but just in case you haven’t: that idea of coding as thinking is at the heart of the piece, and well stated (esp in “Programming as Theory Building”):Losing the imitation game
AI cannot develop software for you, but that's not going to stop people from trying to make it happen anyway. And that is going to turn all of the easy software development problems into hard problems.
