If you hate protesters blocking roads in the name of taking immediate #ClimateAction, you’re going to really hate how Climate Change itself blocks roads.

You know, the cities didn't have so many cars in them didn't have so much concrete and asphalt, instead were green, we have fewer floods. If the surrounding ecology had been restored, you have fewer floods.
Is the farm in every country grew multiple crops in careful way they could eliminate all dependence on hydrocarbons, they produce much more food per unit land than big commercial farms, and you would have fewer floods.

At least 95 dead in Spain so far.

ALARMS RINGING, LISTEN.
We must stop adding carbon dioxide to our air. It holds heat like a rolled window in a car on a sunny day.
Stop burning carbon, oil, gas, biofuel, coal. By building engines that don't use carbon. By generating electricity with solar, with wind.
Build it all now. Just build carbons replacement. Build it all now.
We have build 1/4 of it.
FASTER.
NOW.

The town of Chiva, about 50km upland to the east of the City of Valencia is where they recorded the historic nearly 500mm of rain. There are mountains about 50-100km inland of the entire Spanish coast, so the rain accumulates into the river valleys there and floods to the coast.

@MikeImBack There are scenes like that literally ALL OVER the streets of Valencia and its suburbs. The rail lines are also cut, but I suspect those will be quicker to come back than trying to get all these cars either to a wrecker or fixed! An incredible mess. And many many people missing. And this is just in the City itself. There are many small towns to the East and South of Valencia that have been devastated. Are now Inaccessible. Casualties, unknown.

@camerondotca I haven't seen any images from the central city itself yet. Not sure if the waters got into there or how they directed itself!

@chris From memory, there is a dry river bed/now park that runs through the central city. That MIGHT function as a huge swale.
-
Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸replied to Camerondotca last edited by
@camerondotca that was the original course of the Turia river. They diverted the river (in the 1970s?) around the South side of the City which is where all the damage that we are seeing pictures of is now. Not sure what's happened with the original river bed from these events.

@chris Yeah, so it's sort of there as a (mostly) sunken park. But yeah, diversion is nice in principle, but water goes where it wants to go.

@chris Block roads? Flooding in Quebec earlier this year took out entire roads, parts of minor highways, and even managed to wash away a bridge and its foundations.
-
@chris I kind of noticed that in some neighbourhoods it was less sunken than in others.

@JustinDerrick Yup, same in Spain as well yesterday. And here in BC in November 2021.
