Time to think about moving from this instance but where to go? #Fediverse #Migration #Hmmm #Pondering #Indecision

I'm probably being thick, but I therefore don't understand why you want to migrate to a less-good experience?

@juglugs @omnicaritas Other than feeling a kind of peer pressure by osmosis I'm not especially sure myself. Obviously if dot social does increasingly become defederated widely (as is often intimated) then I'd either move or stay in the big silo. The more likely scenario is that i procrastinate at length.

My life is basically governed through "peer pressure by osmosis"

Thanks Urban, I have been to there and Followed a few, but it looks like most of them have either gone, gone, or gone back to Twitter
-
@lyndamerry484 @uc I think most ex-Twitter refugees have gone to either Bluesky or Threads. Still a viable instance suggestion unless you feel the need for access to Threads or the bridge to Bluesky from here (not everyone's cuppa but each to their own) .
-
Thanks, yes each to their own, I just wondered if any or many in the UK were on here.
I have found a few who are active.
-
@lyndamerry484 @uc Obviously there's plenty of UK people on here though it's probably not what most refugees are looking for. It's way more my natural home but it's much more an antidote to corporate social media. I do believe the future of social media is forever now going to be a fractured one and people will stay where best fits with them but maybe, with checks and balances the means to talk to each other no matter each our chosen online home. I know. I'm a naive dreamer.

I have wondered if the France are right to hold a Platform owner to account for what and who is allowed to stay on their Platform.
Social Media I suppose is like everything it can be for good, but boy some of them have it been and are really bad right now,

Sure they are.Yes, there should be a high-tolerance on social media for "free speech". I.e. Users should be allowed to say (almost) whatever they want.
That doesn't mean they shouldn't be censured or banned for that.
By platform owners.
Who have no obligation to "free speech" and do have an obligation to safety and moderation.
And this is what Duroc failed to do.
(And also why you should pay your #MastoAdmin )
-
@lyndamerry484 @uc That's the old argument over whether hate speech is free speech. I don't believe it is. If you fascilitate free speech then that is an intentional political act of aggression imho and people need to be called to account for such.
Others may disagree. -
@xdydx Nothing to disagree with there. It's not black and white but safety and moderation a just basic dececency (though some view even that as distasteful these days)

I think many instance admin - I'm not including the massive membership ones here necessarily - do take their responsibilities seriously. After all, they are private servers run by ordinary people who pay the bills, and defederation would be an expensive mistake.

Yes I suppose so, I have never been anywhere but that X place and here, and I must say, here is so much nicer.
-
There is no argument in UK Law, Freedom of Speech does not include the Freedom to incite violence or racism.

In the UK the Freedom of Speech Law does not include the Freedom to incite violence or racism, and that is why many who did just that before and during the riots are finding themselves in a Court Room.
-
@lyndamerry484 @uc Admitedly the bottom of my kitchen bin is a nicer place than X right now but yes whilst not perfect my mental health is better for being here. I get why it's not on the radar for a lot of people but I think it has a niche. Not being owned by a corporate entity is a bonus for me even despite the drawbacks that also entails.
