I just heard someone mention the word “Tannoy” and it reminds me that I haven’t seen audio equipment with that brand since I left Singapore; which kinda makes sense as it’s a British brand, and Singapore was a British colony.

I just heard someone mention the word “Tannoy” and it reminds me that I haven’t seen audio equipment with that brand since I left Singapore; which kinda makes sense as it’s a British brand, and Singapore was a British colony.
Anyway, today I learned that “I heard it on the Tannoy” in British English is slang for “I heard it on the public address system”, e.g. in a department store.
