@mike this is a real issue, and there should be a better way to have a shared identity across multiple systems.

@Transportist so true! And my lemmy, ghost, bookwyrm and Wordpress accounts didn’t even make the list. Plus I have a number of federated magazines that I curate.
Bringing together all the dimensions of someone in the fediverse, sort of like a federated version of linktree, would be really helpful.

@mike this is going to turn into a mess.

@mike I was thinking more of a Federated Identity. Some trusted server(s) would host my ID(s) and the tokens to log into many other services I choose to connect with. So I could even use an email address as my identity, (or my identity as an email address) and it would be verified somewhere, and then my ID would be that. I could set up accounts anywhere with that identity. I imagine this is non-trivial to implement and am sure there are even more issues with adoption.

@Transportist I totally agree that this is needed. Some people will want to maintain specialized accounts on specific services but I believe most will want to have a single account they can use across whatever services they find useful now and in the future. Solving this is going to be really important for the fediverse to grow.

@russell it doesn’t have to. We can solve this if we all collaborate.
