Dear @swf A modest proposal:
„make OP (original poster) the curator of the reply collection of their post“
Why?
- It promotes more decentralisation.
- It allows for a better user experience as replies by loading the collection reduces traffic and inter-instance delays.
- It reduces the load on instance-wide moderation as replies from accounts that OP has blocked won’t be added.Users could have a „show all replies“ to override and fetch … 1/3

My second point is a bit ambiguous but I don’t want to edit the toot. So let me clarify a bit more.
When the OP curated reply collection becomes (more) authoritative, other instances can fetch that collection, giving users the complete thread. This solves a known issue, especially in Mastodon land, that replies are not fetched by other instances or only with significant delays, making the user experience bad. With my proposal, instances can fetch all relevant replies in one go. 3/3

@jwildeboer Isn't that very similar to what's discussed here:
https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/fep-5624-per-object-reply-control-policies/
(unfortunately the discussion seems to have stalled, I would have loved to see it implemented) -

@dentaku Honest question: how many FEPs have been implemented and by whom? Is there a list/table?

@jwildeboer I think the definitive list is here: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep and some of them are marked as FINAL so I assume they are or will be implemented.

@dentaku That’s not an answer to my question It’s „just“ a list of proposals. I asked about implementations.

Implementations are tracked within the FEP's themself, like e.g. https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/branch/main/fep/f1d5/fep-f1d5.md#implementations
The FEP Process started as lightweight as it could possibly be. This because how hard it proved to do any design-by-consensus open standards development within a grassroots movement (since AP became W3C Recommendation in 2018 there have been hardly any further formal innovations).
The FEP Process is of the fedizens, for anyone, and to be improved by anyone collectively and as needed.

@jwildeboer keep in mind that your proposal puts a moderation burden on the OP.

@i9e1 Yes. But a lot of that work is automated as, for example, replies from blocked accounts will never even enter the collection. And also — the OP should IMHO always have the final say.
