"Thirty to 40 percent of infertility cases involve male factor infertility, so let us not pretend that IVF is some great gift just for women. And it’s, of course, not only straight, cisgender couples that use fertility treatments: I know gay couples, for example, who used IVF to expand their families."

"And so when, for example, a Politico op-Ed offers that 'There is a new Gender Policy Council in the White House, but it has not addressed a single issue facing boys or men,' I am confused, as that council’s national strategy includes a section called 'Protect, Improve, and Expand Access to Health Care, including Sexual and Reproductive Health Care.' Did I miss something? Are those not issues facing men and boys?"

@wdlindsy have you ever considered putting these into a blog post?
Yours is one of my go to feed for seeing important stories. @GottaLaff too but she tends to be much more real time so a blog might be harder.
At any rate, I'd pay to read the aggregated materials y'all put together.
I very much appreciate both of you.

In the passages attached below from his book Strange Glory: A Life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer (NY: Knopf, 2014), Charles Marsh chronicles how the drive among Germany's Protestant leaders for a "manly Christianity" played a major role in facilitating Hitler's rise to power in the early 1930s.

Jason Stanley, How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them (NY: Random House, 2018), on how aspiring fascist leaders deliberately distort and exploit male anxiety about loss of status to gain power.

Jason Stanley (ibid.) sees a direct line between the exploitation of male anxiety about perceived loss of status by aspiring fascist leaders, and their attacks on LGBTQ and especially trans individuals.

Stanley also notes that the obsession with declining birthrates — especially among white women — within fascist movements, an obsession Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, and JD Vance want to put front and center now, is linked to fascist aspirations. Women need to be put back into "their place" as mothers, and spanked back into place if they refuse.

“The leader’s displays of machismo and his kinship with other male leaders are not just bluster, but a way of exercising power at home and conducting foreign policy. Virility enables his corruption, projecting the idea that he is above laws that weaker individuals must follow."

"It also translates into state policies that target women and LGBTQ+ populations, who are as much the strongman’s enemies as prosecutors and the press. ….
Virility, in the form of the leader’s dominance over women and other men, has pride of place in his [i.e., the strongman’s] plans for national transformation

@troy_frizzell I certaintly don't read any of the commentators I've excerpted above to be pretending that Politico is journalism acting in good faith. Au contraire.

@philip_cardella @GottaLaff I very much appreciate the encouragement, and share your admiration for the wonderful job @GottaLaff does daily to keep us informed and thinking. I did keep a blog for some years, and then, as I went into full retirement, found my energy for doing so was waning, so I gave it up. I'm afraid I have even less energy now!

@philip_cardella Definitely unusual and terrifying, and totally in line with long-studied trends in rising fascist groups of the past.

@SordidAmok Yes, it seems that beating women is now the focus, and not racial distinctions in the women to be beaten. They talked about spanking Hillary Clinton in the very same way.

@PeasLuvnJustice Yes, women are to be viewed as and treated as dependent children, with male authority figures as the wise and ruling father who keeps them on the straight and narrow path and punishes them — for their own good, of course — if they deviate. This is in line with the thinking of aeons of patriarchy bolstered by religious ideology.

@wdlindsy it most certainly does. An ego so fragile they must try to destroy what they disagree with or what glorious leader disagrees with.
