Does anyone know how these plates would have been used?

Does anyone know how these plates would have been used? Presumably for some kind of printing process or maybe a stamp of some kind? They were in these envelopes (for a long time, you can see the envelope marks on one). About the size of a business card. My great grandparents were Swedenborgian ministers, so they probably did a fair amount of printing.

And since I'm here, anyone recognize the font? (That I can look up later)

@nazgul perhaps for envelopes or stationary? I think I have something similar from my grandfather (and his 3rd wife) which I think was used to make personalized stationary. But I have to check - it’s in a box of his stuff in my garage I need to go thru one day.

(But I think his was relatively speaking newer - in the 1980s/1990s I think)
