I don't watch telly (don't have a license).
-
@emsquared I cancelled my TV license when Britain's Got Talent announced its third season. When I DO see TV now, I'm usually "Was it THIS bad??".
-
@BackFromTheDud I remember the exact point I stopped being obsessed watching BBC News 24 & it was seeing John Sopel live, on the scene during the Raoul Moat thing.
-
@emsquared I'd given up on BBC News before I junked the TV.
-
@BackFromTheDud Well done you. It's toxic stuff. these days doubly so.
-
@emsquared Melanie Philips killed my interest in BBC Radio current affairs when on "The Moral Maze" she compared smoking cannabis with raping children.
-
@BackFromTheDud Lol. Wow. Didn't she used to pop up on Question Time? Man how i ever watched that.
I've always found the Moral Maze too insufferable to stomach but haven't listened since the Janet Daley era who could grind my gears from the moment she opened her mouth. -

@essjayjay I have a legacy online epg for Freesat that I set years ago and it alerts me by email for progs of interest via key words and titles. Not enough ever pops up for me to start paying the license again. I'm not anti TV. Just lost the habit.
-
@emsquared when I turn on Freesat I almost always end up watching an old movie or repeat. Sure enough turned it on now and watching Rising Damp…
-
@bobthomson70 Leonard Rossiter has a brief part in 2001: a space odyssey. Remember rewatching it in a cinema after Rising Damp had hit the public consciousness and when Leonard appeared two lads behind us did a great impersonation of Rigsby in unison: "Oooh myyyy God Miss Jones". Much laughing in the cinema.
-
@emsquared indeed, a shame he didn’t get more dramatic roles as he was so good.
-
@bobthomson70 I often read that he had a low threshold for any lack of professionalism when working with other actors. Saw an interview with the late Richard Beckinsale about how he had low expectations of him and Don Warrington but was soon surprised at how on the mark they were as actors.
-
@emsquared as Rigsby he always seems like a bottle of barely contained neuroses. Highly strung. Such a great wee theme tune Rising Damp has too.
