@manlycoffee Is there some thesis behind this image
-
@neilk no, not this image in particular.
That said, my life thesis is this: it never hurts to try.
Especially blockchains these days. Other than Bitcoin, most blockchains have moved away from proof of work and onto proof of stake, so the fears of environmental impact should no longer be there.
-
@neilk I was also partially trolling.
The Fediverse has a disdain for blockchain and AI.
This image should also get some of them livid.
-
@manlycoffee That's what I thought.
I've met you in person, and you seem like you have intelligent things to say.
In the fediverse, there's no engagement algorithm and it's relatively rare to reshare bad takes. There are other ways to provoke discussion here, and personally, I wish you would avail yourself of them. I find trolling very dull.
But, if what you want from social media is to find opposing tribes and make them "livid", perhaps you should go to X, The Everything App

@schizanon Y'know, I shouldn't say this, but I have thought about your comment for a while
I don't think I'm a sanctimonious pedant at all times, with all people, but some of my recent comments have trended in that direction
In my defense: I have seen many cherished spaces ruined by trolls and grifters, who have even turned that into a strategy for power. I went to Mastodon to avoid it. It saddens me that the rising generation has known no other ways.
But I could be less snippy about it

@neilk @schizanon thinking out loud here, but if I were perfectly honest with myself, I posted that meme out of resentment over a fringe group of Fediverse folks who are militantly against certain things that theyโI guessโdislike, such as crypto. Some of whom attacked me on another account on another instance for having endorsed crypto.
But that's the key: fringe.
I now realize that a large chunk of the Fediverse doesn't really care about crypto use at all, I believe.
I shouldn't be painting the Fediverse with broad strokes like that.
Not to mention, the Fediverse isn't against AI either.
I remember maintaining Firefish (now called Iceshrimp), and was surprised to find an AI model in there. Apparently it exists to flag CSAM.
Only a fringe group would go out attacking AI proponents.
I really shouldn't be childish like that and paint the entire Fediverse as an unflattering caricature of people who can't engage in nuanced discussion.
