they should call mastodon gaslightodon because of how awful cross instance moderation is and how lightly moderators take decisions to ban entire instances of legitimate users.
such decisions are completely hidden by the ui leading to follows just vanishing, profiles being silently unavailable, and more. you don't know as a user that someone on the moderation team caused another instance admin to collectively punish your entire instance over their personal behaviour.
-
"multiple instances by multiple mods [of being shit to mutual aid posters]" like cool, i guess they should get their shit together, but *still* fuck you for breaking *thousands of real people's relationships* who have nothing to do with it.
I'm sick and tired of being expected to keep careful track of a web of relationships that should not be my problem so I don't get targeted by collective punishment by some authority that shouldn't be my problem either. Abusive-childhood ass website.

@leftpaddotpy they do actually have a merged PR to fix the not notifying people problem, here: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/27511
…though of course that’s only a partial fix -
@leftpaddotpy oh and of course it doesn’t work if your server gets blocked by another one, only if it’s your server doing the blocking
-
@eta well that really doesn't help then tbh
-
@leftpaddotpy @eta tbh if their users get notified, they can choose to raise hell/move/etc
-
@leftpaddotpy @eta like I'm very interested to see what the side effects of doing this are on certain instances with particularly capricious moderation that their users may not be aware of
