In 2020, Australia apparently had a blockchain roadmap. But it seems to have run out of road. Link now goes to a catch-all technology page with no mention of blockchain. Why am I not surprised?

We don't call it blockchain anymore.
Have a look at the proposed "Digital Identity token" that's one of the solutions for the authoritarian "Internet ID" law that's just passed by ALP and LNP.
It's basically a NFT.
Also, AFAIK, like all the other nations Australia has not given up on #CBDC

No reason #CBDC should use blockchain. It's potentially an alterantive to blockchain-based crypto, not an imitation.
-
I'd be interested to know what other frameworks there are...
I always understood #CBDC to be Blockchain based.
Happy to learn otherwise.

@johnquiggin @n_dimension The problem is that the vocabulary has been irrevocably polluted by bad actors. See "is git a blockchain". But it is clear that once you throw away the requirement for anonymity and political decentralisation, governments ought to be able to set up an efficient, secure, auditable, public electronic payment system. Whether that counts as "blockchain" or "CBDC" is a marketing question.
