I am now the proud owner of fedizen.net. Fedizen is intended to launch as We Distribute Media’s second major initiative, in addition to a news publication.
The goal is to create a directory of businesses, tools, and services within the #Fediverse. There are a lot of small businesses within the space, from hosting providers and consultants to artists/designers taking commissions.
There’s still a lot to figure out. If you would like to have your business listed in the directory prior to launch, please reach out!

@deadsuperhero Heye !
Both initiatives are nice, I mean, the name "fedizen", and the directory for promoting commercial activities within the Fediverse. However, it sounds strange to me that "Fedizen" narrows to the subset of commercial activities. It sounds a bit like "being a citizen of some area implies being involved in providing commercial activities there". Whereas to me, it’s more "being there and participating to shaping the life in the area".
How do you feel about this feedback ?
-
@deadsuperhero what's the max size of the business?
I like the initiative a lot, thanks!
-
@iwein good question! I don’t really think there’s a max size, but the spirit of this effort leans more towards teams and individuals who are actively using the Fediverse or building for it. I want to make something that helps people that are here.

@r3vlibre I guess that’s fair, and my intention isn’t to exclude anybody. If anything, this was an easy name that felt like a good play on words, “The Zen of Fedi”. A lot of other domains I had thought about were either taken, prohibitively expensive, or just didn’t sound good.
I’m not looking to make a statement that people who don’t fall into a narrow category aren’t valid Fedizens. I also am not looking to restrict this solely to registered corporations. To me, this is more of a grassroots focus, where commerce has more to do with people coming to a small local market to sell or exchange things they’ve made, as a way to support themselves.

@deadsuperhero
i run a small thrift and vintage clothing business in Ottawa, Canada that has a fedi account, is this the sort of space that would list us? is there a cost? -
@jamil Absolutely! And no, there isn’t a cost.
