๐งตKUKURIZARU
When walking through the neighbourhood that tumbles down the hillside from Kiyomizu-dera to Gion, you may notice some odd-shaped talismans hung outside homes and businesses.
Kukurizaru (ใใใ็ฟ) are small balls of cloth, most commonly red in colour.

Kukurizaru represent bound monkeys, tied at the feet & hands.
Outside the home they act as protective talismans for those within, but at Yasaka Kลshin-dล (ๅ ซๅๅบ็ณๅ ) they are also made as offerings to the blue guardian deity Shลmen Kongล (้้ข้ๅ).Yasaka Kลshin-dล, founded in 887, is centre for the Kลshin faith.
Originally a folk religion, practitioners of Kลshin-shinkล believe that for a wish to come true it is necessary to sacrifice 1 desire. Desires are thus symbolically bound up as a kukurizaru.
