@nat King County posts data on respiratory viruses which show up in county ERs every week. Last week of December was pretty darn bad for flu and accounted for 700+ visits. You can see how that compares to past recent years too. Pretty bad season and that line was still very much going up sharply.

@nat And this is a year you really want that added protection. If we end up with some h5n1/h1n1 mashup virus, having received the h1n1 vaccine might at least provide some cross reactive antibodies to whatever the reassortment strain ends up being. You see that with some pandemic influenzas, where a generation which had a high degree of exposure to a flu from a given year ends up doing much better in the pandemic than young people without that exposure, because of lingering immune protection.
