"The Trump campaign knew that men were his ticket back to power, and it targeted them—pointedly young men, and men of color—with a sophisticated campaign of grievance and disinformation.

@wdlindsy @Nonya_Bidniss My daughter (15) said what she fears most is that she now has to live in a world where many men her age think emulating Trump is what they are supposed to do, and there is no expectation of consequences.

@wdlindsy here in Britain I find the younger folk are totally divided; they are either 100% "woke" or consider Reform UK (which is more popular with seniors) to be "not hard right enough", this was reflected in the post-election riots, where a *lot* of men from the skilled trades seemed to be involved (to the point I consider there is a risk from stochastic terrorism, especially attacks on CNI (critical national infrastructure) in the medium term)
-
@wdlindsy 16 year-old boys were little shits in my day.
Now they are mindless zombies with 15s attention spans needing constant stimulation.
Only two years before they let them vote.
-
@wdlindsy I hate to ask this, but how many eligible women voters didn't vote?
It was really freaking important.

Exactly! When trump brought up the size of a dead golfer’s penis, the men in the audience laughed, but it was the laugh of a shared belief in the superiority of having a penis (the bigger the better).
He sent the same message by fellating his microphone—I’m the candidate with a penis.
And trump’s seeming meanderings on wanting to protect women reinforced that only a man can protect the nation & a woman cannot—she needs a man’s protection whether or not she wants it. -

@wdlindsy
Hi!
Thanks for the share. Could anyone give me the full article please? Since I'm not a subscriber, I can't access the full text but I'd love to show to my French students.
I'd be forever grateful -
@wdlindsy For the entire country to wake up to the fact that a majority of the country elected a convicted serial rapist and more than likely Pedophile to the highest position of power in the world tells us something about ourselves as a society. 60% white males and 53% white females chose this option. Read my last crime fiction piece titled Circus Freak Nation out on Amazon to find out reasons why
-
@Master_of_Reality Yes, I agree. Thanks for your pointer to your Amazon fiction.

@Lolicanthe I'm sorry the gift link did not open for you — and it doesn't for me, either, when I click on it.
You can read the whole article at Webpage Archive:

@bronakins You're right. Their belief in their superiority is, astonishingly, based on belief that possessing a biological appendage makes them bigger, stronger, mightier, better.
-
@i_gvf I haven't seen that figure, but a lot of folks who "should" have voted didn't do so. Voter suppression is a very effective tool, coupled with apathy and low educational standards.
-
@i_gvf Well-noted and well-stated.

@vfrmedia I really do think that the radicalization of younger men is increasingly a global phenomenon, and is being deliberately drive by right-wing actors.
-
@ra6bit @Nonya_Bidniss I'm so sorry. Anyone with daughters right now has every reason to be concerned about their future and well-being.
-
@yappari Sad, for sure, that this is happening.
-
@HeliosPi Thank you for these links. I look forward to reading.

@wdlindsy it is, and was always bubbling under the surface. When I was younger in the 1990s the only reason it wasn't as prevalent is young men were allowed a lot more hedonism (drugs, partying etc), the right wing also clamped down on this which had the effect they had a lot of bitter strung out lads they could recruit from..

@vfrmedia Good historical perspective on how things are shifting in this area.

@wdlindsy I was a rave organiser, pirate radio engineer and DJ during the "good times" and have literally seen it happen with people in my circle of friends. Even though the rave scene was very multicultural and LGBT+ inclusive, it still wasn't enough to stop the "bro" culture slowly taking over and a lot of men falling down the alt-right rabbithole as the drugs clampdowns started from mid 2000s onwards

@vfrmedia Interesting — you're giving me a glimpse of a culture from which I've been totally separated, was totally separated during those years. Thanks for the glimpse.
