I REALLY don't want to join #Bluesky and love it here on the fedi.

@codemonkeymike all i see on bsky is politics, memes, pop culture stuff - it seems like a way way more general audience. i even did a thread test, check it out:

@paulyd @killyourfm your in! And huge fan of Jason!
-
@Viss yes that's exactly it. Back when I was on here and Twitter and would ask for help or an opinion on something. The response here was 5000x more useful and positive
Thanks for the reminder

@codemonkeymike I love PHP.
I’ve paid bills writing in it.
I’ve paid bills breaking apps others wrote in it -
@corycarson PHP always paying the bills. Literally bought me a property, house, truck and entire family lol
-
@codemonkeymike I have a similar pathway as you, moved from mostly PHP to mostly elixir a few years ago.
I left twitter because of the algorithm and noise, I'm not moving to bluesky as I know it's gonna be more of the same
-
I followed you today as I am getting started with NixOS, switching from Ubuntu.

Give it time. I don't remember when I started on Twitter, but I'm guessing I was over there roughly two years before Xitter happened.
Which is just about exactly how long I've now been on Fedi.
In the same time, I have 4.5 as many followers, FAR more engagement, and althogether a much more pleasant experience. (The big secret I discovered is following hashtags. Total game-changer.)

@dblack amazing. How is elixir from PHP? Do you enjoy it more or miss php
-
@codemonkeymike Linux nerd here.
I'm my experience, there are tons of people here that meet your requirements. Just takes awhile to build up a good following. Stick with mastodon. And you can always follow folks on bluesky from here.

@codemonkeymike Am dad, likes jokes, and runs Linux

@codemonkeymike blue sky is good except when it comes to its tech community. The fediverse is still the best place for that IMHO.

@codemonkeymike I do almost 0% web dev, but I'm a huge Linux/SysAdmin nerd. Feel free to follow!

@cavyherd @codemonkeymike +1 on the hashtags. I also like the depth of engagement people tend to have here compared to other platforms.
-
@codemonkeymike I love them both! On the web side of things, I can do stuff in Live view that I only dreamed of in PHP.
I'm just finishing up 3 months PHP work, and I've really enjoyed it too

@technikhil @cavyherd love following hash tags!

Mike, I have installed a few Linux distro in the past, and I really wanted to give Nixos a try today.
The interface install didn't complete initially because, regardless of which option I choose in the partition step, it either failed, or the installer had the "next" button grayed out.
Also, in the previous step, Unfree Software, documentation and tutorials show an additional dialog box; however, during my setup, that dialog was missing, and I just got a message that it failed.
I tried on two machines already, and it failed on both. I then switched to the manual installation, and that didn't fully work either, but at least it deleted tbe old partitions, and after restarting it, the interface installer worked, except for the unfree software step.
Kind of frustrating, but at least I got it up and running, and I also managed to make a few changes to the config file, rebuilt, amd rolled back and to the previous generation as a test.
I am still concerned about the unfree software step though.
