A wild "Supernormal AI Notetaker" joined my Zoom call.

@mahryekuh there's another one going around my workplace (blanking on the name) that hooks into the OS audio feed and records everything. So there's no bot that joins the meeting, and it circumvents Zoom's features that show the meeting is being recorded.
They bill this as a benefit, sparing their users from the awkwardness of having to explain why a bot is joining the meeting.

@mahryekuh
Zoom's feature is called "AI Companion."One of your meeting participants must be using Supernormal, it's one of the many 3rd party tools that has this kind of functionality. It looks like it has an option to automatically join all meetings in your calendar.
Did you get a prompt to allow it to record?

@cwilcox808 It was indeed part of one participant’s stack. I kicked it out relatively quickly and didn’t give it permission, AFAIK.

Update: it was likely not Zoom’s bot, but a participant’s.

@samstokes That sounds like a legal (GDPR, NDA) nightmare; moral grounds aside.

@mahryekuh that's somehow... worse?

@cloudthethings I don't know. He said he didn't put it in on purpose, but it might have connected with his account.
IDC. I kicked it out. Lord knows what ran in the background that I couldn't see, but that's with everything these days.

@mahryekuh I'm used to platforms randomly scaring me with this stuff... people, less so

@cloudthethings Fair enough. I think of AI and how people love it, and I understand why some IT/cybersec folks threw up their hands and became full-time gardeners.

@mahryekuh Seems like a reasonable response.

@marlies AI and asking for consent? That would be the day!

@mahryekuh As an AI large language model I am incapable to ask for consent but will just do whatever the hell I want. Hope that helps!
