@ireneista @aeva @erincandescent before I quit using Amazon they changed the order confirmations so they stopped showing what you ordered and instead showed ads. I don’t even mind the ads so much, but excluding what exactly they’re supposedly confirming is horrible. Might even be an attack vector

@ShadSterling @ireneista @aeva @erincandescent AIUI this was done to prevent GMail from mining your purchase history and showing you google ads based on your amazon purchases.
Heaven forbid anyone but Amazon profit from that data.

But also, why doesn’t Amazon offer an email service then?

@ShadSterling @ireneista @aeva @erincandescent They already have your purchase history, it's more useful than email for predicting what you'll want to buy in the future.
Why bother with the hassle?

@azonenberg @ShadSterling @aeva @erincandescent also, they offer email service on the sending end, which does mean they end up with most of the same data passing through their systems, since they're a very popular cloud provider

@azonenberg @ShadSterling @aeva @erincandescent yes, privacy-brain can be very cynical sometimes, can't it
-
@ireneista @azonenberg @ShadSterling @aeva they do actually have an email service, as part of AWS
You can probably guess how popular it is from how you've never heard of it -
@erincandescent @azonenberg @aeva @ShadSterling not gonna lie, that list of AWS a-la-carte products gets longer every time we look at it. it's been quite a while since the last time we decided we wanted to know what every single one was.

@ireneista @azonenberg @aeva @ShadSterling tbh there's a bunch of half baked AWS "workplace" services like it that seem to exist only so Amazon don't have to buy Microsoft or Google's equivalent but better service
