Most people know the poem, "First they came for the communists".
But it is wrong.
History is very clear, before they came for the communists they came for sex workers, trans people, and queer people all via Paragraph 183 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paragraph_183 which had existed in the German criminal code, but was weaponised by the Nazis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_people_in_Nazi_Germany .
The canary for "First they came..." is always sex workers, trans people, and queer people.
Now look at what is happening in most of the USA and what the incoming administration has promised to do.
The canary is already dead, the warnings already have been sounded.
People are choosing not to speak out... because they are not a sex worker, trans person or queer... and the poem tells you how that goes.

@dee yeah the guy who wrote the poem didn't care about us so he was actually doing the thing he was writing against

Yeah, this. As I keep reminding people, Niemöller campaigned for the NSDAP in 1933, and called Hitler "the man of providence." When he said he didn't speak it was a lie: he did speak, loudly and repeatedly, in favour of the Nazis.
After the war he tried to rewrite his own history to pretend that he had always been antifascist, which largely succeeded because other *respectable* Germans wanted to rewrite their own histories.
