We’ve been catching up on some deferred maintenance on both cars this summer.

@chris @martin_fff Maybe price a used one? It would have to be SUBSTANTIALLY less expensive for me to consider it - but it is another avenue to consider.
Also - our Ford truck and Ford Escape are pushing 160,000 and 230,000 respectively - but I consider all repairs a piece of cake compared to buying a "new to me" vehicle. I feel your pain - between the two, I think we've put in $3,000 this year (almost $1,5 in tires alone)
Anyway - good luck!

@chris I am unable to comment on that as to whether it's factual or not, but I've had dealership mechanics lie to my face before...

@MillerTimeGarage @martin_fff ha! Ya for sure. Exhaust Masters has been good to us for a few things, we'll try there.

@DWTSquawk7600 @chris replacing an a/c compressor is not generally a "at home" job, and very few mechanics will install client supplied parts.

@martin_fff ya, my scepticism bells are ringing. Thanks for the link and info!

@martin_fff @chris Really? Here that's a no brainer - but NOT at a dealership.
-
@DWTSquawk7600 @chris I suspect a lot of 2012 prius c compressors wore out about the same time...

@martin_fff @DWTSquawk7600 turns out my FIL was so flabbergasted by the price when my wife told him that he phoned all over the place looking for the part. Another Island dealership refused to look for the part without a VIN.
But a Vancouver dealer looked it up and said the only place in their system with the part, that can only come from Toyota, is somewhere in California, it was the exact same cost. $3100+So it sounds like exactly what you were saying.

@chris @DWTSquawk7600 Sign up for the "notify me when this is available" on amayama or rockauto, and if you can, hold off on the compressor repair until parts are available again. And in mean time ask about for reputable mechanics in you area. I mean your Prius C is out of Warranty, you're not beholden to the dealership anymore, yes?

@martin_fff @DWTSquawk7600 yes! I was thinking about doing that.
