Heeeeey, electronics/computer people!
My motherboard is a little weird and rather than have a coin cell slot for the mobo battery, it just has pins. This has worked fine till the battery died or something and now my system time always needs fixing -_-
Anyway, I wanna replace the battery but... the way it came was the battery had soldered wires to it that connected to a jumper that plugged in. I tried detaching the soldered leads and putting a new battery in by wrapping it tightly with electrical tape (which is how it came in the first place) but that didn't seem to work.
Is there any sort of like... coin cell battery with a jumper? (I think I'm using the right word). You know, the little plastic block that allows you to neatly connect something to the right number of pins. Is there any known name for this? I'm searching for coin cell battery holders and I can find a lot with leads, but no jumper connection.

@aud DISCLAIMER: You may have to do more searching b/c I was looking for the right sort of thing rather than the specific one you need. Which motherboard do you have?

@[email protected] ah, yes! Exactly like this! Thank you!
I guess adding "BIOS/CMOS" might have helped narrow the search. -

@aud Yup, you're looking for a CMOS RTC battery or such. Which motherboard do you have? I can try searching for that one specifically.

@[email protected] mmmm, it's a GIGABYTE X570 AORUS PRO WIFI. I think this should be sufficient for finding a new battery/holder, etc. They used a pretty common cell for it; in fact, I literally had brand new ones of the exact same voltage/etc, coincidentally, when I swapped. I don't remember the cell model at the moment though.
-
@[email protected] I have no idea why searching for my specific motherboard + new battery didn't occur to me.
I guess the only concern is the board is a bit older, so replacements might have old cells in them. -

@[email protected] Ah, yeah, that is the one! When I tried to swap it earlier, I made sure to swap it with the right one. I mostly just need something to actually hold it, since my little hack tape job clearly didn't work. I suppose I can try re-wrapping it though...

@aud Okay cool! I would honestly just look for a replacement battery with the connector already soldered on - batteries are the kind of thing I don't really "mess around" with

@[email protected] fair enough. Thank you for your help!

@aud You could sandwich it between springs like an AA battery holder does, or get a spot welder pen (they're cheap and readily available) to attach leads to the battery.
-
@[email protected] ... huh. I hadn't considered just buying a spot welder pen. I wonder how much those go for? It's only 10 dollars more than the pre-wrapped/packaged battery, which sounds like a lot except they're trying to charge like, 7 bucks for the whole battery ensemble and I already have a ton of spares.
