I went for a lengthy hike, which was terrific. But I’m still steamed about Sarah Huckabee Sanders and other Trump allies harping on whether Kamala Harrris has biological children (to whom she gave birth, without IVF - since according to Sanders et al, IVF = sin). 1/

I’m disgusted by the smug, self-righteous view that the only worthwhile way to care about the future is by having biological offspring who one raises. The narrow-mindedness is breathtaking. 2/

Women: you are so much more than your uterus or your ova. Men: you are so much more than your sperm. Yes, if for you being somebody’s bio-parent and raising that person is important, do go ahead. But if you prefer a different path or if circumstances put you on one, that is just fine. 3/

I’m child-free by choice. Pregnancy, labor, raising children were never a fit with my own conception of my good. But I would never criticize somebody else for simply choosing those things (I might criticize their parenting style or decisions.). Choices about procreation are deeply personal, fundamentally the province of each individual. 4/

Telling people to procreate and to raise children is as morally wrong as denying people contraception or abortion. Moral people do not try to control other people’s bodies. I can’t think of a more basic premise of liberty. 5/5
