Do *you* have a personal website?
-
@pl nice. add your personal site there and it should all complete a loop of rel='me' stuff now
-
@mattl I did, I am waiting 9 minutes for it to show up
-
@mattl why am I not in your beta tester list
-
@pl what's your GitHub username?
-
@mattl pluc and it's because I didn't comment on issue 2... but there was another place you had asked
-
@mattl (I think it was issue 1!)
-
@pl Yeah, issue 1 was for "I want an account" and 2 for beta testers. I'll invite you now.
-
@mattl yay! I almost have as many scrobbles as you huh
-
@pl Yeah, I've been bad about not scrobbling for a while. I need to find a solution that works on my phone.
-
@pl okay caching is way more than 9 mins there, but look its up!
-
@mattl could trigger a cache invalidation on save?
-
@pl I'll fix that in the rewrite. for now I'm only tweaking templates.
-
@mattl Hey! A smidge of feedback from a relative outsider: I did not know what libre.fm was at all, and a search of the web didn't help explain it much. It felt like a inside joke that I hadn't been let in on. The website has no about page explaining what and why. And it seems there is no content unless you sign up. I didn't know much about last.fm and even if I did, libre.fm doesn't give me any clue that there is a similarity of any type. I had to find the libre.fm Wikipedia page to get a clue.
-
@poleguy yeah itβs definitely not as obvious as it was.
-
@mattl You see, I don't know how it "was." I'm new here, and honestly I'm not sure if I understand what libre.fm is or what it intends to be. I see a site with "sign in" and "register" but it doesn't say what for. Next is a roadmap that starts with discussion of "reopening" but doesn't say what's reopening, then it dives into technical milestones... but never says what's at the end of the roadmap or what was at the beginning. There is "file an issue" on a project that has no source code.
-
@mattl I only mention this to help provide you insight into what it feels like hitting your site as an outsider. You can't have that "new user" experience, so maybe my comments are valuable? It seems you are presuming your site visitors all come with some sort of pre-established context. I'm interested enough to poke about. But it's not clear to me you are aware what this looks like to a complete outsider. It looks intentionally obtuse. Is it a walled garden that I must sign up to see?
-
@mattl Apparently I can listen to music on libre.fm if I go to libre.fm/listen without signing up. Yeah, the whole thing is not clear, especially to someone who's never heard of last.fm, never used it, nor has any idea why I'd want to. I guess I have to go find the wikipedia page for libre.fm which then drives me to investigate last.fm for a motivation? I don't feel that's a great funnel for enticing new folks. (I hope my feedback is helpful in some way?)
-
@poleguy Yeah, I think a large disconnect comes from the fact Libre.fm took off in a way that was unexpected and unwanted. Last.fm is a product. Libre.fm needs some context.
-
@mattl Ah, I see. I get a sense there is some trauma associated with it based on your "roadmap" page. I went to the wayback machine and looked at what the site looked like in 2019 which gives a much more clear explanation of why I might be interested in signing up, what it does, etc.
It seems like an interesting project; good luck! I'll return to lurking now.
-
@poleguy Take a look at the site now. Hopefully clears things up a tiny bit.
