> “Arguably I am throwing away the most political power my party has had in a generation. But on the plus side Poilievre can never call me Sellout Singh again!” said Singh.

> At press time Poilievre was still calling him Sellout Singh. -
Oh no I'm hearing that Singh apparently *actually said* "Poilievre can never call me Sellout Singh again" during his press conference. I don't want to go check because if he did that's worse than I thought possible. Like. Yikes.
Sadly, I don't think the NDP represents my values anymore. My values include things like "when conservatives call you names, you fight back". Cringing and begging them to stop are not my values.

@npilon there are many things about the current cycle of Canadian politics that I don’t like.
Chief among them is the astounding irrelevance of the federal NDP.
This really seems like it should be their moment, and Singh is just not the leader to capitalize on it.

-
@mick @WJBL @npilon The fact that today’s massive own-goal by Singh wasn’t stopped by anyone around him demonstrates a troubling amount of groupthink at the core of their leadership team. A good leader would insist on being surround by people with a diversity of opinion and experience — and listening to those voices.
Even worse would be if he *did* have those voices present but overrode them. @monicarooney
-
@SCampbell @npilon yes! This is my other major disappointment.
Both the NDP or the Greens could be positioning themselves as the choice for those who have been failed by Liberal policy, and they have totally ceded this ground to pp.
Instead of pitching social movements that inspire Canadians and can build us up, they’ve surrendered us to a populist who cares only for acquisition and exercise of power.
-
@tantramar @WJBL @npilon @monicarooney
Disappointing. And reminds me of the Greens in the worst way.
-
@mick @SCampbell the federal greens are unbelievably dysfunctional at an organizational level. They do not have it together. They are not a realistic party to vote for; they’re barely able to choose a leader.
-
@mick @tantramar @WJBL @monicarooney I lost it JUST over the fundraising email I received. It listed a bunch of things the NDP and Liberals passed together, then crowed about broken Liberal promises, strength, weakness, hope - but at no point did it bother to justify this strategy shift. It’s basically the same email they’ve been sending me for nine months, only about flipping the damn table instead of executing on a careful plan.
