reminder to not think less of individual members of the sharkey dev team
this proposed feature was actually controversial internally too. so if you harass individual members, you might be hurting people who are actually against it
not to mention, witch hunting people in general is a very bad, very hurtful thing to do as well -

As I just mentioned, it seems like it's jumping the gun here: we don't have a way to mark accounts as being minors anywhere on the network, nor do we have ways to mark accounts or content as being adults only, so there's nothing for this to plug into. Why bother programming something like this when we don't even have self-reporting, and thus don't even know what the need for it will be?But yeah, people need to remember that these are open projects, and people can just submit code, and that it would be borderline abuse of power to reject a code submission that I guess some people were asking for. Everyone else can just turn it off.

@[email protected] yah, i 100% agree. so many features ive been wanting have been skipped over for something i cant even use (if i wanted to) because stripe doesnt support donation-based services anymore
i just wanted a way for users to say theyre over X age when they register. is that so hard to implement? -

@ashten
I mean, clearly not, considering someone managed to implement a way to say that through a third party. -

@[email protected] @[email protected] I have to disagree on the "borderline abusive to reject a code submission", regardless of the topic at hand.
Part of being maintainer is to decide what should and should not be part of the software. Every extra thing makes maintenance harder, and provides extra room for bugs to hide. If you feel obligated to accept any feature that someone wants you'll easily end up with an unmaintainable mess. It's totally fair to say "nope, this shouldn't be here". If you want to be nice to people who want features you don't want to maintain/support, offer a stable API for extensions. -

I was thinking more in the sense that, someone put in the legwork to add a feature, so to waste that work when people are asking for it, just because project maintainers don't consider it a priority, would be abusing that position as a maintainer. You make a good point though, because this thing could introduce all sorts of problems to the code base and people running the program.What I would like to see is if this can be extended to add what should have been added before this, an option to declare, without a burden of proof, that you are over 18, or that your account should only be interacted with by users over 18.
