Anyone have opinions about PoE cameras that can see in the dark and will function fine if I deny them Internet access?

I'm about to buy some axis cameras otherwise.

@ryanc Sony used to have some fantastic sensors for proper offline CCTV, but I haven't touched their newer stuff. Can't go wrong with Axis though.

Look for a Sony Starvis 2 sensor and consider getting a separate IR illumator. Illuminators in the camera leads to stuff like bug orbs and loss of depth.

@cR0w I got several strong "expensive but worth it" recommendations for them, good to hear more.

@zesty the range of cameras I'm looking at apparently don't need illuminators

@ryanc When I worked in PHYSEC, we only used Axis in high risk and high value locations. That was nearly a decade ago so grain of salt, but I agree that they're generally worth it. Just keep them off the damn Internet.

@ryanc @zesty Sounds sensible. The built in IR LEDs are the weak point for the Unifi cameras we have. This is largely fine indoors, but it means they’re completely useless outdoors if it’s foggy. (And the cameras don’t detect this to turn off the IR.) And even the fairly pricy Unifi G5 Pro’s sensor is pretty poor in low light without the IR enabled.
