Even though we're still waiting on the final results, BC *will* have its first black MLA in the Legislature in 50 years! NDP candidate George Anderson was elected in Nanaimo-Lantzville.
He is a former City Councillor in Nanaimo.I've been trolling around at the results looking for representation from First Nations. I'll post what I find but I thought this was noteworthy.

@chris on the news on election night they interviewed his dad and he was fretting about his son's victory but called him a "Dynamic child" thinking as a parent not as a spokesperson I think

@carkner aw. poor dad! Worried about his son! I think he was treated very poorly on social media when he was on council so I can understand the concern. Big respect to Mr. Anderson for running provincially!

Perhaps the article was referring to the first new *elected into* the Legislature since Barnes was elected in the 1970s!
