For one, 'more of the same’ can be pretty darn disruptive in terms of making a meaningful difference in people's lives, especially when it comes to Apple's investments in health.
These are literally life-saving devices for people, often at a cost that is a good deal less than the dedicated hardware flogged by the healthcare industry.
They turned the *existing* AirPods Pro 2 into personalised hearing aids with a software update, and gave users agency with an at-home test.

I don't think people understand how huge this is. It's not just that you can test your own hearing at home, and then get a personalised profile generated for your specific hearing needs.
You don't need a professional to do it for you. You can do it again next week, next month, and next year. At home. Without someone judging you for not coming sooner or whatever.
Also, they don't LOOK like hearing aids.
All of this is a big deal for something that is undiagnosed for the vast majority of those affected. It removes shame, stigma, having to deal with a fragile device that eats batteries like there's no tomorrow.
