@mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin I was calling it "The boy who Called Wolf" to often. Don't believe a word they say.

@mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin Pete Buttigieg nailed it even though he didn’t use the term. “This is a strategy to get us talking about the latest crazy thing that he did,” Buttigieg said. “The last thing he wants us to do is to talk about his record or his agenda. So what he wants us talking about is whatever crazy nonsense he can thrust into the center of the internet and the media conversation, which this week happens to be this stuff about eating cats or dogs or geese or whatever.”

He is so good at this stuff!

@mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin Did they know that it wasn't necessary to literally include a dead cat?

@mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin The “see also” section on the Dead Cat Strategy Wikipedia article is one of the best I’ve seen.

@mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin I agree that they are doing this to distract and change the subject, but it can't just be ignored, because ethnic Haitians in Springfield are under attack, as is the city manager, and they can't have live meetings about it because they are being inundated with bomb threats. So I'm afraid we can't just say "ignore this distraction". If we ignore it, I'm afraid someone is going to be killed.

@gulovsen @mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin When I saw "dead catting" I thought of a similar term from investing, the "dead cat bounce."
Prices are going down, and they suddenly go up a bit. But "even a dead cat will bounce if you drop it from high enough."
Now I'm struggling to figure out how that would be related.

@mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin a.k.a. Steve Bannon’s “flood the zone with shit.”
Shitflooding, if you will. -
@Grizzlysgrowls @gulovsen @KamalaHarrisWin
Had that thought too.

Would not say to ignore. Call out, address the danger posed, ridicule, and pivot back to positive messaging is the right approach.

Certainly similar.

This sort of thing is also referred to as "Stochastic Terrorism," but for slightly different reasons.

Great point. It is both Stochastic Terrorism and Deadcatting.
It is also incredibly racist dog whistling, blood libel and probably a few other evils.
These guys are nothing if not practitioners of all the dark political arts.

@mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin
Calm that rhetoric down! It's become overheated! People might become inflamed!
