Austria is poised to fall into the hands of a fascist authoritarian populist in national elections this Sunday. Again.
I lie in bed, unable to protest, unable to be part of the resistance, unable to keep my own body fed and clean without help. I listen to the news. I practice new swear words in German. My partner, working full time and caregiving full time, rubs his exhausted eyes, turns off the radio and helps me into the bath.

According to the early results tonight, 29,1% of Austrians voted for fascism.
If these numbers are correct, they will be the largest party in parliament and (if tradition is followed) will be offered the first chance to build a coalition government.
This is the first time since WW2 that the Freedom Party has been the biggest in parliament. This party was founded by former members of the Nazi party shortly after the war. Its ideology has not changed since.
