Bloc leader says he won’t support non-confidence vote against Trudeau government - Toronto Star #Canada
-
@GottaLaff @Snowshadow The non-confidence part, or the numbers (why the government survives if just the Bloc--or just the NDP--support them)?
-
@oclsc The entire system. I'm not familiar enough with how all of these votes work, why they can take place. how the parties break down, etc. @Snowshadow
-
@GottaLaff @oclsc @Snowshadow Majority = 170; if one other party supports the government on a confidence motion in parliament, they survive the day
-
@DanFox @oclsc @Snowshadow I don't understand yet how the parties break down re: liberal vs conservative. I keep getting mixed signals from various Canadians which is the most liberal/conservative.
-
@GottaLaff @DanFox @oclsc @Snowshadow liberal = centre/left, conservative = right, green = progressive (environmentalist), bloc = Quebec nationalist (with a hint of separatism thrown in), NDP = left (progressive)
-
@rickbelanger I thought "liberal" were more centrist, leaning right a little. @DanFox @oclsc @Snowshadow
-
@rickbelanger @DanFox @oclsc @Snowshadow I'm not understanding bloc. Nationalist? As in Trumpy?
-
@GottaLaff @DanFox @oclsc @Snowshadow
Liberal Party of Canada: Centrist (Neo-Liberal, Corporatist, very similar to US Democrat)
Conservative Party of Canada: Right-Wing, has recently moved further, much like Republicans.
Bloc: Quebec Nationalist/Sovereigntist party concerned only for Quebec policies (and only runs MPs in Quebec), generally centre-left, but has some weird racist/xenophobic tendencies.
New Democrat: Leftist/Unionist but tends to govern to the centre.
Green: Leftist, Environmentalist, but also with some weird Conservative spots. -
@GottaLaff @rickbelanger @DanFox @oclsc @Snowshadow it will depend who you ask, but I think that is accurate.
-
@GottaLaff @rickbelanger @DanFox @oclsc @Snowshadow As in advocating for a separate country of Quebec. Like Scotland, or Catalonia.
