Another week goes by with no idea who owns #Bluesky.
A month ago they announced they were finalizing a deal lead by Bain Capital (yes that Bain Capital) valuing the company at $700M.
No information on who the investors are has been shared
Since then crickets.
So, who now owns Bluesky?
Maybe if you are over there, ask them. See what you can find out. Why is it being kept a secret?

@kkarhan @mastodonmigration is that a racial joke or…?

@cferdinandi @mastodonmigration obviously, not because it's a hint at the amount of #Neonaizs, #Racists and #Christofacists that are allowed there.
- But I don't tell you what to believe, just that you ain't the first one trying to trow shit at me if this is what you're up to...
Not to mention #BrownSky (aka. #BlueSky) was founded by #JackDorsey as a means to try to skirt #NetzDG and not #moderate content. He left when it became clear that this is not how #laws work!

@kkarhan @mastodonmigration Jack was run off the platform by the users, and I’m not sure why you keep calling it brownsky. What’s the reference? Does brown have significance in some way?

@kkarhan @mastodonmigration I know brown as a euphemism for skin color. Is it also a Nazi reference I’ve literally never heard a sine person use?
Being arrogantly clever is pointless if no one gets wtf you’re talking about.
-
@kkarhan @mastodonmigration or all of your shit talking, I run into FAR more racists and Nazis here than Bluesky. And way more arrogant little fucks like you, too.

@cferdinandi @kkarhan @mastodonmigration just for clarification, so i understand.
There is a post asking who owns BlueSky
someone comments, with the assumption that it could have been bought by Nazis and phrases this with "BrownSky"
and because you feel personally attacked and you like BlueSky more you decide to insult these users as "litte fucks"? And that is your argument? -

Am pointing out how wildly ineffective that is.
And yes, I call chucklefucks what they are.

Seems like we have established that Chris didn't understand the brownshirt reference. Assumed it had something to do with racism. Attacked the poster for being racist. Had the reference explained, and pivoted to attacking Mastodon for being racist, a subject he brought up. Was called out on this non seguitor, and came back with attacking everyone in the thread as 'chucklefucks', whatever those are.
But we've strayed for the main point. Who owns Bluesky?

No, they haven't. Some media posted this based on "insiders familiar with the deal", #Bluesky hasn't said anything about any new financing rounds yet.

Interesting. Are you saying it is a false report? It was all over the media. Business Insider has a pretty good track record. Has the company denied it?
Just seems to raise more questions. To you knowledge has the company confirmed anything about who actually owns Bluesky and in what equity percentages?
X competitor Bluesky is being valued at around $700 million in a new funding round after explosive growth in the wake of Trump's victory
Bluesky is raising new funding led by Bain Capital Ventures that would value the social media company at around $700 million, according to sources.

@mastodonmigration I'm guessing there's something to it, so they're probably negotiating, but it's almost certainly not finished and decided, could even fall through completely, who knows. Until it's announced, it's not a thing, and it certainly wasn't announced.
I don't think they've said anything about % recently, last time was that "Jay holds the majority of the equity" before the Blockchain round.

Which is very odd, because founders never have a majority of the equity. It is always the money people. So, we are left to parse this cryptic statement.
The thing is, this should not be a mystery. Bluesky is presenting themselves as a liberal oasis. They should be eager to assure people that their ownership is consistent with this mission. The fact that they are not transparent about who owns Bluesky should be troubling to people building their social media presence on the platform.
