Didn't these eggheads watch The Simpsons? Keep this technology away from the Mr. Burnses of the world, please thanks.
"A new pair of satellites are set to create ‘solar eclipses on demand’
Two satellites from the European Space Agency are designed to create eclipses on demand, which scientists hope will lead to breakthroughs in solar studies."

@briankrebs Oh fiddlesticks...

Folks, this is being largely misunderstood. It does not cause a solar eclipse on the earth. These these two probes fly in unison and one blocks the center of the sun from the other one with the instruments on it, so that it can look at the corona around the sun. It is a truly amazing and wonderful technology. See https://www.esa.int/Enabling_Support/Space_Engineering_Technology/Proba_Missions/Proba-3_Mission3 for more.

I am amused and a little sad that some people may have actually thought this possible with our current level of technology.
(that would be cool tho - giant solar sails intercepting and harnessing power to be beamed down for our use instead of heating up our atmosphere; cheap power and climate change fighting at the same time)

The click bait WaPo headline doesn't help. But since Bezos has refocused their mission on mis-informing it is kind of par for the course.
