I don't think most people have any idea how fucking bad it is for the trans and nonbinary people around you right now. Look after your folks as best as you can, offer support when it is welcome, and let folks have their space when it's not.

If you want to do the right thing and help keep trans and nonbinary people around you safe, the first step has to be to educate yourself if you haven't already.
Read the trans travel guide for your area, it can help you learn what threats trans folks around you might face.
Learn about how "identify as" or "preferred pronouns" play into right-wing narratives about pretending to be a different gender.

Learn about right-wing dogwhistles like "biological male/female," "groomer," "attack helicopter," and others. Call them out when you hear them, especially when it's just cis folks around --- when there's no one else around to stand up for us.
Learn about etiquette when you or someone around you makes a mistake --- fixing honest mistakes with grace can help deescalate and prevent conflict.
There's a lot of good resources out there, check them out and help!
