Real talk: Odin the Newfoundlander has been a huge hit on mastodon, and my husband and I are worried someone might commit to raising a similar dog without fully understanding what they’re in for. At ten months old, Odin has the brain of a baby while being as big and strong as a human adult. He doesn’t quite grasp that trying to playfully tug me around by the coat sleeve easily leads to chomping down on my arm with massive force; obviously we’ve been trying to train him out of it but again, BABY.
If there’s people in your household who wouldn’t be able to calmly withstand the occasional massive crushing bruise or getting unexpectedly rammed by 160 pounds of pure love and enthusiasm like a freight train, don’t bring in a Newfie puppy. Look into either a different breed or adopting an older dog
