That'll be a cool day.

@foone I've been using a crappy giant smart television hooked up to a computer via HDMI. One input away from all the files you could ever watch, also it makes computer gaming a treat.
Wireless mouse and keyboard are pretty cheap these days too.
An idea at least.

@PatrickoftheG yeah I keep meaning to do that. just some linux with a remote and VLC
-
clearly some should crowdfund the VLCBox
it's a little box that runs VLC (WITH UPDATES) and nothing else. it just talks to ethernet or wifi and shoves videos out an HDMI port -
@foone All we need is a 2024 version of the WD TV.
Still shocked that this turned out to be one of the best purchases that I ever made. You just point it to your share (or attached drive), and it plays it (MP4/MKV).
Dead simple, stupid reliable.

@foone I thought that was called Kodi.
-
@drwho ahh, I forgot kodi! I don't think I'm currently awake enough to remember why I hate kodi.
-
@foone surely you mean a VLC cone.

@kawa good point
