With jpg xl, can you choose how high quality you want to see the image, that is can you serve one file and different people can choose how they want to see it, according to how much data they are willing to download?

Could we do the same with video? Could we have just one torrent with one video file, and everyone could choose how much they want to download and still see the whole thing? 4k, 1080p, 720p, etc all in the same file, just choose how much you're willing to download?

@forteller The problem with doing this in video would probably seeking. You have to put the "extra" data somewhere. With a picture, you can the smaller resolution data at the beginning of the file, and then just stop when you have enough. It can load progressivly. With video that would mean you'd have to have all the data for 720p first, then the extra 1080p data after that, etc. But since you need all the data per frame for full quality, you'd have to jump around in a huge file.

@gregersn Right, sure, that makes sense. Too bad! I'm a bit tired of all the different torrents for the same piece of culture, and it's really bad for conservation when the peers gets spread out like that, it would seem to me.
