As Noah Berlatsky reports, Green Party voters have long pretended that they really believe their candidate can win.

@Kierkegaanks Indeed. If they imagine Trump and the Republicans are a sane solution to environmental problems, then their imaginations are fractured.

There is a lot of 'burn the village to the ground to save the village' about these people.

Seems like this Green party is a puppet of Putin. Wonder if the European Green's are also puppets. Seems that because of them Germany is dependent on Russia for LPG??? -

@wdlindsy So dangerous because she takes votes from Dems! I think she screwed up Hillary counts!
-
@wdlindsy I think she's a Russian asset.

@mastodonmigration @wdlindsy I would ask that contingent of the United States Green Party how many of their own teeth they would be willing to sacrifice for the sake of hurting their political opponents.
But I fear there would be no limit to the answer - as for Donald Trump's supporters.
(This is not a hypothetical, since multiple prominent members of Trump's campaign are using "take fluoride out of drinking water" as a campaign promise.)

@tntneedham I suspect they've been more about being a spoiler for the Democrats all along, than they've been willing to admit. I really would like to see a multi-party system in the US, and I'm sympathetic to the critique that the Democratic establishment is too centrist. But helping Trump and the Republicans? What can they be thinking? What kind of malicious minds do that and claim they're all about pursuing progressive goals?
-
@leeolds That thought has crossed my mind more than once, definitely.

@Stone1glo You're absolutely right.

@oldgeek Yes, I think those are questions well worth pursuing, certainly in the US case. I'm less informed about the European case. But we definitely know a primary goal of Russia is to set us all against each other to fragment democracy, and to use twisted information schemes to do that.

@mastodonmigration Well-stated. You're exactly right. And when you've burned it to the ground, who have you really helped except the party that wants to burn it all down?

Jill Stein was not running to win in 2016.
She was there as a spoiler.
That. was. her. job.

Are the Democrats committed to trying to change the parliamentary system so that other parties could have a chance?
Or are they just blatantly abusing their position in the two-party cartel?
If so, are there any alternative but to threaten them with "punishment" or "burn down" the whole system?
I think as long as they abuse the cartel, they are basically collaborating with the Repbulicans, *against* the very people who vote for them. They're keeping you hostage. -

@wdlindsy A lot of Democrats are centrist and stuck in the past, but that is better than electing fascists.

"In 2016, Hillary Clinton lost Wisconsin to Trump by 22,748 votes; Stein carried 31,072 votes. In Michigan the story was similar: Clinton lost to Trump by 10,704 votes while Stein carried 51,463. Ditto for Pennsylvania, where Trump won by 44,292 votes and Stein pulled in 49,941 votes."Had Clinton carried those three states she would have become president."
