I was told that Portland would be literally a shithole full of antifa, but so far it’s been coffee, great food, gardens and good NA beer.

@skinnylatte I'm sure the food wouldn't attract you, but judging by the one McMenamin hotel I was able to stay at (Edgefield), the art and atmosphere of those is worth just a beer visit.
Seeing the interiors in Make Magazine decades ago was my introduction. https://www.mcmenamins.com/kennedy-school

@meganL oh yeah someone was just telling me about this spot.

I need to visit Portland. Haven’t had a chance yet. Every friend that has gone has loved it, and at least one has been trying to convince her circle to move there.
-
Not veggie or vegan, but I always hit up the Grilled Cheese Grill and get the Big Chessus.
-
@Littlebobbytables I’m not vegan! I just post about it for friends

@skinnylatte Wait, you're in Portland? Cool! Where? For how long?
-
Last time I visited, there were a lot of homeless tents. Not menacing, just heartbreaking. Are they still there, or did they finally get those people under an actual roof?

@argv_minus_one they’ve just started throwing their tents and shit away and not giving them any real housing or shelter. They’re doing this all around California and the governor himself is throwing tents away and also not fixing housing. It’s utterly horrid
-
Yeah, I heard. It's awful. I meant Portland, though, not San Francisco.
-
@argv_minus_one oh, I would be very surprised if they were doing much better. It seemed less concentrated than sf, tho you know I do live in the TL so my perspective is skewed.

@msbellows was there most of last week. Have left but expect to return and meet more people in the future
