"Former President Donald Trump has delivered a barrage of lies and distortions about the federal response to Hurricane Helene.

As Jay Kuo says, MAGA loves to warn us that a storm is coming. And now that one actually did devastate a big swathe in the Southeast, MAGA has shown its hand by spreading lies and disinformation. And this allows us to prepare for what we know they'll try if Trump loses the election.
"We already know many of the attack vectors."

The conspiracies and false claims surrounding hurricane relief efforts carry an important silver lining.

@wdlindsy That can't be Trump, his hand is WAY too big. Sloppy work, AI.

"Just as they just did with the hurricane relief funds, Trump and his MAGA allies will leverage hatred and fear of migrants—feelings Trump himself has stoked for months—to falsely claim that millions of 'illegal immigrants' have voted."
They'll also edit videos and use AI to create fake images and videos, Kuo says — they're showing us this right now.

Let's speak plainly. They understood the mission - undermine and bring down any effective governance. That's what is going on. We have an active insurgency trying to break the government ...and public support for democracy.

@wdlindsy To understand how Musk sees himself, one need only see the linked image, which seems to be his favourite avatar. A man like him could have practically any image he wanted, so it's reasonable to assume this is his preferred self-image, or what he wants to project.
He fancies himself some combination of Sun-Tzu, Cincinnatus, and John Galt. A self-built super-genius who's going to save humanity through some kind of tough love and arrogant disregard for society and the rule of law. /2

@wdlindsy 2/ Key to this self-image, though, is gross denial about his privileged, racist upbringing which informs his Darwinian view of almost everyone else, rather surprising yet arrogant ignorance about many things (given how easily he could learn about almost anything, due to his resources), and most acutely, a painfully cringeworthy immaturity and poor impulse control.
He's a pubescent teenage boy trapped in the body of a middle-aged man, whom I believe is starting to panic about that.

@wdlindsy There is obviously something wrong with Elon Musk. His behaviors lie outside normal boundaries.

@wdlindsy Elon Musk looks in the mirror and sees a caped crusader/hero in much the same way that Clarence Thomas looks in the mirror and sees a rich white man. #clarencethomas #ElonMusk #lies #mirrors

@Theosuwb I'll answer for him: Nah, I don't have a scrap of dignity and self-respect, but I'm the richest guy on the block, so I can do whatever I damn' well please.

@Runyan50 I so much agree. I've long sensed this with him. He has given me the creeps for years. When he bought Twitter, I shut down my account there the day he took control, and that's when I came to Mastodon. I wasn't about to put a penny in that man's pockets by having anything further to do with Twitter. He's a walking, breathing illustration of all that's wrong with the cult of rich men as geniuses. They just aren't — they've not geniuses, not redeemers, not innovators. They're exploiters.

@Tharpa Can you imagine Trump wading in anything at all other than what gets flushed down a toilet? I for sure cannot.

@DoesntExist I suspect you're right. I tried using AI a few weeks ago to generate an image of people celebrating, having a party. I made repeated attempts, and not one time in all the times AI generated images for me did the image contain anything other than white people. Never a single black or brown person. AI is a tool reflecting the values and worldviews of those who crafted it. It's very much the creature of exploitative libertarian techbros.

Yes we did. And they're still praying and still malevolent.

@wdlindsy it's illegal to knowingly broadcast false information about a catastrophe, especially if such communications may cause substantial “public harm”
" Public harm includes direct & actual damages to people or property & the diversion of law enforcement or public health & safety authorities from their duties."
But Elon Musk & X are not regulated by the FCC. So, HOW DO WE STOP THISLink to FCC rules on FALSE INFORMATION/BROADCAST HOAXES https://www.fcc.gov/reports-research/guides/hoaxes
