I'm deff going to lay cardboard over a swathe of grass over the winter period. Really must reduce the grass area for other planting (n' s***). #Garden #Grass #GoodbyeGrass #Gardening

@emsquared Use the lodger's boxes.

@emsquared Cardboard might be the most-used tool in our garden. I am turning more grass into beds this winter, as well. Good luck
-
@rootsandcalluses Ha. Thanks. Cardboard works so well for just this purpose doesn't it? All the best with your own garden changes.

Producing cardboard is a highly chemical process and the used stuff is not removed completely. So if you use cardboard you bring a lot of chemicals into your garden beds and suppress wildflower for pollinators. It's a sort of technically fighting-against-nature but not organic. With cardboard you introduce a lot of chemicals into your garden. You'll not be able to grow healthy vegetables thereafter.Das Beet mit Pappe anlegen – ist das eine gute Idee? - Sonjas Gartenfreuden

@Irisfreundin I know. I believe we used to be better with this in the UK than some other countries in terms of allowed chemicals in cardboard. Only other option is to buy weed sheets I guess.

@emsquared i used hated black plastic on my raised beds to kill off weeds and during hot spells hopefully kill seeds whilst stopping new ones landing. First year I’ve tried it. Would never have that much cardboard though the latest bed had a layer of it at the bottom whilst filled with rooted grass clippings, grass covered turfs that had been under plastic, shredded tree branches from conifers taken down last year and some soil our garden builder gives us.

@John_Loader Good stuff. Cardboard is still the best option for me.
